There are over 200 different types of cancer which all grow and progress at totally different rates of time. Which means that in some types of cancer it can literally take years to grow and a patient outlives the cancer. Other types are aggressive (these are the ones you hear about more often) and can grow very fast. If any type of cancer is found when it is small and just starting to grow it is easier to treat, remove, and a patient is generally considered ‘cured’ from that cancer, although there is no guarantee. Cancer becomes life threatening when it has grown so much that it begins to spread or metastasize in the blood stream . . it is still treatable, but survival becomes more difficult.

It is clear from your question that you have never known anyone with cancer at all.
