Walton is right – its impossible to pick greatest player. Different teams, positions, opponents etc. What about Oscar Robertson? averaged a triple double an entire season, almost his first 5 years. Wilt avg 50 pts for an entire season once! IMO Jordan best scorer and 1 on1 skill, Magic best ball handler, and point guard passer, Bird best all around skill set – shooting range and ambidexterity, rebounding and passing creativity and clutch. the greatest has been jordan . he has been the greatest offensive player ever (, greatest scorer ever, good shooter, faster moves, 2 hands, and fantastic the last second of the game). and he was one of the greatest defensive players, the player with more steals in nba history, and the guard with more blocks in nba history. when in 1984 jordan went to chicago, the bulls were the 2º worst team of the league just behind the pacers. years later he gave them 6 championships…who can get more ????

@2pac510707 Mike torched the celtics again and again. Let’s not forget he had 49 in game one of that series. He gave them 50 in 88. He had a game against the celtics in 89 when he switched to point guard where he had 42 11 assists 9 boards and 9 steals. He killed them consistently. And Jordan’s 2nd and steals and the best shot blocking 2 guard in NBA history. Bird was phenomenal but let’s not get crazy.

No one that knows anything about basketball thinks the ‘86 Celtics would beat the ‘96 Bulls. The Celts would have no answer for the size of the Bulls guards and Toni Kukoc. Not to mention the most impressive stat of Michael Jordan’s career, which makes him superior to Bird, Magic, almost anyone for that matter: 6-0 in the finals. When Jordan made it to the finals, he was only walking away with the title. Bird and Magic walked away multiple times empty handed.

@gusyrocks If championships are your measure of the greatness of a player then you would think that Bill Russell is better than jordan? Which isn’t true. Stockton has all time steals record, and overall because of defense jordan, however bird would be equal in the offensive department because both of them lack in certain areas but very few. And bird averaged 2 steals and 2 blocks in his playoff career, bird was a great team defender mj being a better on the ball defender.

@cje8433 each of the old celts starting 5 that year average AT LEAST 3.2 assists a game. The bulls had fewer rules not in their favor while they were playing shortened 3 point line and no ruff play refereeing. Its not the same and the bulls didnt have all 5 players down the floor on the fast break for 75% of the games like the celts did. How many HOFers on that ‘96 bulls team? And no one that knows basketball history would compare the powerhouse teams of the ’80s to the bulls competition.

It’s funny that you all vigorously defend the 80s Celtics and Lakers, when they’ve openly said they find it hard to see how they could match up with later generations. (McHale made this point often while GM of the T’Wolves), but I suppose you all know more about basketball than them. I think the 95-96 Bulls were superior, and several writers and journalists agree. I know this angers fans of Bird and Magic because they loved them in the 80s. I loved them too, but it’s time. Turn the page guys.

i think the 86 celtics wouldve beaten the 96 bulls in 6 games mainly cuz they were best offensive team i ever saw, the ball would whip around the floor and they had a nasty front line w/ parish, bird, mchale and bill walton who was 7-1 and a great rebounder and passer…jordan was also 33 at the time too…the bulls were swept out of playoffs twice by celtics in 1986 and 87…dennis johnson is in hall of fame too

as a celtic fan i remember jordan torching celtics w/ 49 and 63 pts in 2 consecutive games in 1986 playoffs but he still got swept twice by Cs in 86 and 87…jordan is a all time great but wilt in his prime was most dominant player ever…7-1 275, all muscle, quick feet, athletic and could touch top of backboard…jordan never avg 50 pts, 48 minutes and 25 boards a game in entire season like wilt did in 1962 and lets not even talk about blocked shots

@cje8433 If Jordan could take his 72-10 team back in time to 85-87 I promise you he would have walked away without winning a title some of those years. I watched the bulls and loved seeing them win, I live in Chicago, but the 80’s teams were deeper and more physical. And the Celts and Lakers had great center and post-up play. Who on the Bulls is going to stop McHale, Parrish or Walton? What about Jabbar and Worthy? Parrish (who was on this Bulls team) was asked this -his answer was 86 Celts.
