This is amazing. Great battle. One of the best playoffs ever. One of the best finals ever. The legendary year of 1988. I can’t wait to see the entire series. Thank you so much for your effort, tjhunt76!!!

I swear i love seeing the two greatest point guards ever battle head to head. The 88 Series to me is the greatest Finals ever, back and forth for 7 games and two best friends at the point going all out

He played 7 quarters against Magic in 89, on top of that. Byron Scott was also out for the whole series.
Jordan didn’t hit his prime until about 92-93 imo. Not that he wasn’t great in 89, but that Bulls team wasn’t exactly the Phil Jackson versions.

Michael Jordan was a great player from jump and had his prime from 88-93 or so, in my opinion. The problem wasn’t MJ, the BULLS were just not ready to compete on a championship level until around 1990 when they pushed the Pistons to 7 games.
The 88 Bulls scared no one and they didn’t look like the 91 team at all except for MJ. Phil Jackson didn’t take over until 1990. The Bulls were nothing pre-MJ and it took them some time to develop into a championship contender.

I thought Jordan was basically at his best/prime from around 87 to 93. The MJ of 87-88 won DPOY and MVP. It took until around the 89-90 season until he become a consistent 3 point threat, and he continued to work on his physical strength (you see a noticable difference in physique starting in the 90-91 season), so his post-up game was more developed during the first 3-peat, but I thought he was a little quicker when he was thinner. A bulkier Jordan was still blazing fast though.

You hit it dead-on. I would also like to mention that with Jordan, it’s almost futile to talk about his “prime”. He was so good that you couldn’t notice much of a drop in performance outside of his prime year to year. You can only tell when you’re comparing 93 to 96 or 88 to 93. You can’t really tell much difference between 88 and 89, for instance.
And even outside of his prime, he was still the best player in the league.

Who are you?
Wade doesn’t need to impress you. (Doesn’t need to impress me either.)
He’s obviously a great player. Finals MVP. 30-per-game, top 5 in league in steals, good rebounder, strong defender. Unstoppable drive moves, great finisher. David Thompson style athleticism. Great player. End. Period.

Imagine if Jordan didn’t retire in ‘93. Given 93 was his best playoff and finals average moment yet if he stayed in 94 and 95 we would have seen more legendary playoff moments from him especially with him evolving from a drive-to-the-rim player to a dead-eye jump-shooter.

1988 was Jordan’s best year as an individual talent, but 1996 was his best year as a team leader. League, All-star, and Finals mvp, team with the best record of all time, the best sidekick and sixth man on his team, the best coach, defensive juggernauts, he was at the top again, even higher than before. Had he not retired, this would have been the culmination instead of a comeback. 1996 would have been even greater in everything.

Thats just a personal foul…can’t imagine that would have happen in today’s game. Magic would’ve been ejected. Today’s game sucks.

Michael Jordan was the best already in 1988 but Detroit are blocking their way (always) in the play-offs
and they don’t really use Triangle offense yet on Chicago..
and MJ was a little bit selfish at that time…
when Phil Jackson came.. its the Bulls turn to look down on the Pistons team
and beat them like hell.. hahaha
