First off, what criteria do you use to compare players? Your list is kind of all over the place so it’s hard to see where your coming from.

I do agree with you that Magic was a better all around player than Jordan was, but I would put a couple players ahead of Magic. And that’s not a knock against Magic.

Kareem is the greatest of all time GOAT

Hey – I went to MSU, and I think that Magic Johnson is a Basketball God AND I’m a Pistons fan (meaning I hate the Bulls) but really, come on now…we all know that Michael Jordan was the greatest basketball player of all time.

Greatest Center of all time – Wilt Chamberlain
Greatest Power Forward of all time – Bill Russell
Greatest Small Forward of all time – Larry Bird
Greatest Shooting Guard of all time – Michael Jordan
Greatest Point Guard of all time – Magic Johnson

Simply because he wasn’t the greaatest. and no I am not going to sit here and type that Michael Jordan is the greatest. Magic, did change the way the game was played however. Records once held my Magic are now being broken. Team sports it is very hard to pin point 1 individual as the greatest.

Wilt has to be above Magic Johnson. For my books Wilt can even take Jordan to #2.

we think alike on this one I believe magic is the greatest leader of all time and is as good or better then Jordan …..win Jordan won his 1st title vs magic that laker team had no business being in the finals but magic willed them to the finals by beating a great Portland team that would meet the bulls the next season in the finals.

Russell and Chamberlain will be up there. Magic probably top 10, might have been higher but his career was cut short and he loses 1 point for un-retiring!

It’s not ridiculous to think that. I can name a handful of guys you could make a good case for being the greatest. Magic is one of them. The guy was the best passer the game has ever seen and could play every position. He even played center in the finals and had like 20 rebounds that game. If you ever seen him play that guy was just amazing. He was a match up problem for everybody because he was too big for guards to match up and too fast for big men. He could have easily been a 25 to 30 point scorer a night but he was still a point guard first. Although I would probably have to go with Jordan as my pick because of his aggressive scoring ability I have no problem with with you saying Magic is the greatest. He was a one in a billion ball player.

Greatest should be between MJ and Russell that’s it.
Magic is a distant 4th, you would not talk about Magic
as the best if he did not have Kareem. I would put Kareem
ahead of Magic.

DPOY, So Was Russell. Magic was not a defensive player.

I agree Magic Johnson was the greatest of all time. He lead his team in the toughest rivalery times. His career was cut short beacuse of AIDS not because he lacked the passion to play or gave up. He made his team better the min they drafted him and also after all MJ never even had a winning season without Pippen. When times got tought and the young players that were as atletic as MJ were coming in, he quit. He was smart cause he went out on top but he seen the writing on the wall when Ai lit him up. MJ was sold to a whole generation by espn as the greatest during a water down time. After showtime brought the NBA back to life and before Shaq, Duncan, Kobe, KG, Tmac, really got going. MJ was at the right place in the right time, thats all. Mj trying to look like Dr J.
How about West winning MVP on the losing team in the finals scoring 46 plus against Russell, Cousy Halick? Too many people grew up on MJ’s jock and cant see before or after it…

It’s ridiculous to say that because we don’t know who is the "goat" since basketball hasn’t ended as a sport. There could be future players who could surpass Magic and even yes, Jordan.

Who suggests that? I’ll never forget when Kareem went down with that injury and Magic begged to take his place and proceeded to dominate the game. I completely agree. He wasn’t called ‘Magic’ for nothing. I wasn’t aware Jordan could play every position, or that his career was cut short because of AIDS. Silly me, I thought Jordan’s career halted because he abandoned his team to suck at baseball.

I have magic in my top 5 all-time, but he was not the best defensive player in the universe as MJ was so that makes the answer somewhat ridiculous though

on offense, I would still select MJ higher than magic
